Day 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We left the hotel bright and early at 6:20 in order to catch our flight at 7:45. \u00a0Thomas and Lakpah got us to the airport in time for our flight, but it turned out the flight was delayed till 9:20. \u00a0That&#8217;s ok. \u00a0We hung around for a bit before taking a short flight in a 20 passenger plane over some high valleys and mountain crests. \u00a0It was a beautiful little flight. \u00a0The descent was intense. \u00a0We followed a mountain ridge and them made a complete u-turn, dive bombing in order to land on a tiny dirt strip on the side of a mountain. \u00a0Fun!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"Nepal Small 1624.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sethandberkley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Nepal-Small-1624.jpg\" alt=\"Nepal Small 1624\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"Nepal Small 1621.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sethandberkley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Nepal-Small-1621.jpg\" alt=\"Nepal Small 1621\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Phaplu is a small village of about 700 people. \u00a0Before they built a closer landing strip, Phaplu used to be the landing strip to climb Mount Everest. \u00a0That&#8217;s a long trek before you even reach base camp. \u00a0We went up to Hotel del Sherpa for some tea, and then met with Buddha, who showed us around the local hospital. \u00a0It was actually a very nice, clean facility. \u00a0It was nice to see, and to find that people use the cheap, if not free, medical service. \u00a0Then we had a quick lunch before heading out on our trek.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"Nepal_1882.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sethandberkley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Nepal_1882.jpg\" alt=\"Nepal 1882\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our trek today was only about 2-3 hours. \u00a0It was a pretty easy day through a beautiful valley where we ended up in Beni, in an open valley to camp by the river. \u00a0It&#8217;s a nice peaceful area. \u00a0There are a lot of people who pass by, and everyone is smiling and appreciative of a, &#8220;namaste&#8221;. \u00a0We watched children having an organized play time during school, where they played games that were unlike our childhood games, and difficult to figure out. \u00a0We watched a pack of mules walk by our campsite and cross a narrow wooden shaky bridge over a river. \u00a0It&#8217;s a nice start to our trek.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We left the hotel bright and early at 6:20 in order to catch our flight at 7:45. \u00a0Thomas and Lakpah got us to the airport in time for our flight, but it turned out the flight was delayed till 9:20. &hellip;
